Group Meditation at The School of Modern Meditation
  • Claire Robbie is a New Zealand-based meditation teacher, sobriety guide, and the founder of The School of Modern Meditation (SOMM). She began her career as a journalist before moving to Los Angeles, where personal transformation led her to retrain as a yoga and meditation teacher.

Claire discovered yoga in 2005, and five years later, meditation found its way into her life. Over time, both practices became foundational, not just tools for wellbeing, but ways of living. Now based in Auckland, she balances motherhood with teaching, mentoring, and community-building, approaching healing and resilience through lived experience. She sees connection and conscious presence as antidotes to many of the challenges people face in today’s fast-paced world.

Awareness Insight Meditation (AIM) is the approach Claire teaches and lives by. It didn’t arrive fully formed, it unfolded over years of personal practice, teaching others, and ongoing study. AIM felt more like something she gradually uncovered, a practice that clarified itself through the very act of doing it. Awareness Insight Meditation (AIM), the approach she teaches, evolved gradually through years of practice, study, and teaching. Influenced by yoga philosophy, Buddhism, Vedic meditation, Compassionate Inquiry, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), AIM is a modern, integrative path that supports practitioners to deepen awareness, understand their internal landscapes, and live more consciously.

Woven throughout all her work is The Light‑Heart Path, a gentle philosophy grounded in self-awareness, honest reflection, and soulful living. It encourages people to move from autopilot to intentional, aligned choices—guided by their inner compass.

Claire also created The Alcohol Reset Pathway, a six-month, meditation-based mentoring program supporting individuals to release alcohol from their lives and cultivate clarity, emotional insight, and deeper self-trust.

Through one-on-one mentoring, community programs, and meditation teacher training, Claire supports people to move past internal blocks and reconnect with their innate wisdom and purpose. She thrives in close, intentional relationships with students and fellow teachers—those who are ready to do this work deeply and wholeheartedly.

Claire offers a grounded, heart-led approach to meditation that draws from ancient traditions, neuroscience, and practical psychology—supporting people to live with more awareness, depth, and aliveness.
